The Joey P. & Scottie D. Foundation (Tax ID 81-2853452) is partnering with local members of the Houston community to present a competitive afternoon of fun and fitness. This free event is a joint effort with local community partners to establish self-esteem, bring awareness to young athletes about college opportunities and scholarships, and empower the community through fitness and education.
Our foundation believes it is paramount for children to learn the skills they need to succeed both personally and professionally, so they can give back to their communities. We believe that the key pillars of sports – that is, communication, sportsmanship, perseverance, and learning to be a team player – coupled with hands-on learning opportunities, can teach students the lessons that will be useful for them in the classroom and in the workforce. These key pillars are often forgotten when it comes to sports, and it is our duty to make sure students know it is “more than a game.” We must ensure that our students are aware of the opportunities for academic advancement that come along with sports.
